Flash Republic Bio:
Flash Republic is a South African dance group made
up of Tamara Dey (vocals), Ryan Dent (synths,
samplers, keys and live visuals) and Craig Massiv (synths,
samplers, keys and live visuals). Each of these
artists have their own respected solo careers, but
together they make up Flash Republic. They formed in
2004 and are currently based in Johannesburg, South
Africa.

About Flash Republic:
Since the release of its cracking debut, ‘Time Is
Now’ in 2005, South Africa’s Flash Republic has been
fleshing out a musical vision that – in 2011 - is
only just hitting its considerable creative stride.
The past five years have seen the trio hone a
dance-driven sound that easily places it alongside
similar top-drawer outfits around the globe – along
the way delivering a rack of char...t-topping radio
singles (including last year’s monster hit
‘Twister’) and earning Flash Republic the respect of
some dance world’s biggest-name remixers (among them
Seamus Haji, StoneBridge, Thomas Gold, Prok & Fitch,
Fonzerelli, Bellatrax and Henry John Morgan).
Like any proper creative outfit, Flash Republic has
been unwilling to stick within any prescribed genre
boundaries in its half-a-decade journey so far.
Indeed, over the past year, Flash Republic’s
founding core of Tamara Dey, Ryan Dent and Craig
Massiv has expanded into a broader family. Key to
the latter are guitarist Martin Rocka (Martin Rocka
& The Sick Shop) and drummer Isaac Klawansky (Soft
Serve, The Shadowclub), both scorching live
musicians in their own right.
Rocka and Klawansky now play an integral role in
Flash Republic’s much anticipated third album, due
out later in 2010 and the follow-up to 2008’s
‘Danger’. Working out of the Jazzworx Studio in
Johannesburg, Flash Republic’s original songwriting
trio of Dent, Massiv and Dey has been augmented by
Rocka – and the results of this newly invigorated
composing team are already sounding superb.
Klawansky has also taken his efforts from the live
stage into the studio, playing an integral role in
the recording of the upcoming album.
It’s no surprise that Flash Republic’s pushing sonic
boundaries in its quest to find an exciting, at
times daring, yet always accessible sound: before
forming Flash Republic and over the past five years,
Dent and Massiv have taken their renowned DJing
skills into the area of songwriting and production
in a way that’s given a global polish to all Flash
Republic’s singles - Robot’, ‘Emergency’, and ‘Gave
It Up for Music’ off ‘Time Is Now’ and ‘Star’ and,
the biggest of them all, ‘Twister’ off ‘Danger. Dey
has also proved herself a musical adventurer, never
afraid of taking on exciting side projects and
always listening to the broadest scope of music to
keep her ear tuned for the great melodies and lyrics
that Flash Republic is increasing known for.
As a trio now expanded to include new family members
Rocka and Klawansky, what’s emerging from Flash
Republic circa 2010 is nothing short of
forward-striding pop that has the energy of early
post-punk, the swagger of rock and the sheen of 21st
century avant-dance.
From 2005’s ‘Time Is Now’ to 2008’s ‘Danger’ South
African fans and a growing international audience
have known one thing for sure: what Dey, Massiv and
Dent began five years ago was just the start of
something enduring, intensely creative and pretty
damn special.
Flash Republic:
Flash
Republic is the funky conjoining of three of South
Africa's most prominent dance music talents and has
already established commercial success through the
dominance of Summer Movin on S.A radio charts and
their 3000 head debut Cape Town New Year's Eve 2004
performance.
Flash
Republic have just returned home from their hugely
successful festival tour of Holland and they are now
ready to follow up on this success by committing to
a South African release and national tour.
The core of Flash Republic:
Tamara Dey (SAMA award nominee and proclaimed First
Lady of Kwaito and dance music) Craig Massiv (SAMA
award nominee, acclaimed International and national
Producer and co-founder of Jazzworx studios) Ryan
Dent (International and nationally acclaimed D.J/
producer and Co-owner of Platform Music in Cape
Town)
With existing demanding schedules as solo artists,
Flash Republic will utilize their individual
strengths and reputations to publicly profile and
garner attention for this unique collaboration.
TARGET MARKET
Flash Republic's media & tour campaign will be
directed at the established South African &
International dance market with the inclusion of the
**** and university audiences. In addition, we will
enter into the Kwaito market, with single remixes.
(Ages range 18 - 35 years)
Within this primary target market Flash Republic
will include the existing fan base of Tamara Dey,
Ryan Dent and Craig Massiv (Ages range 6 - 30
years).
TAMARA DEY
Tamara Dey has managed to cross all cultural, age &
language barriers. She has unassumingly been
recognized as one of the few South African artists
contributing towards bridging the gap between all
cultures, ages & races. With 11 official languages
in SA, Tamara's music has been described as the
'unofficial language'; celebrating the heart and
soul of South Africa.
